Would you like to join a family Choir

Bibi Gurdev Kaur started the first ever Sikh Women Choir in 1998 as she believes that music is a universal language and singing brings happiness, peace of mind as well as helps improve the immune system. Since its formation the Choir has performed at many prestigious events and venues such as Royal Albert Hall London, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Guild Hall Southampton, and Birmingham Cathedral, many local / national churches and interfaith conferences / events.

BBC World Service produced a special programme on choir's unique bilingual style as the traditional Sikh hymns (Shabds) are sung by the choir first in its original text Punjabi in Indian Ragas; then translated in English poetry and sung as English hymns in a fusion of traditional and modern music. The choir was invited by Bhai Mardana International Society in 2002 to receive Bhai Mardana Award in India. While in India, choir performed at many big devotional congregations at many places in India and since then has been invited to perform again.

Bibi Gurdev Kaur now is trying to involve the whole family and especially the children. She teaches on Friday evenings from 7.00-8.00pm at Northside Welcome Centre. Sikhism believes in "One God and One Human Race" so in all the hymns we sing the praises of God the Creator and not any prophet or deity. She welcomes people from different backgrounds who are interested in singing and breaking barriers through music.

The choir was invited to perform at the Council House on 18th of April, at the National Indoor Arena on 18th of May 2008 and in the Refugee Week celebrations in Coventry on 17th of June. We are really privileged to be invited to perform in special Keertan Darbars on Guru Ram Das ji's Gurpurb in September/ October and are practicing for our tour now. We will be going for three weeks and perform at many big Keertan darbars in different cities i.e. Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jallandhar, Patiala, Flaur, Fagvara, Kapurthala etc in Punjab, India.

Feel free to bring your children or come along by yourself on any Friday to check us out or join us at 7pm at the Northside Welcome Centre.
